Om Ma-net Beh-meh “Moo”

Translucent Double-Layer Fabric Curtains: Six curtains suspended from the ceiling.

Calligraphy and Design: On five of the curtains, the phrase “Om Ma Ni Pad Me” is written in different calligraphic styles—seal, clerical, cursive, running, and regular. The second layer features red grid lines for practicing calligraphy.
– Each person’s life is a process of learning and practice.
– The ways of spiritual cultivation are diverse, allowing for personal choice.

Observation of Composition: The five large characters are composed of smaller text stamps. For example, the character “Om” is formed using the stamps for “Ma,” “Ni,” “Pad,” “Me,” and “Hum,” without the actual character “Om” present.
– Regardless of the method of cultivation, it relates to focus and persistence.
– Our hearts often fail to grasp the meaning of the present moment, losing focus and neglecting the essentials, thus not fully living in the now.

The Character “Niu”: The final character “Niu” is not formed by small stamps; instead, some threads of the fabric are pulled away, creating the shape of the character.
– Letting go of attachments leads to enlightenment and understanding.

Interactive Element: In front of the “Niu” curtain, there is a rotating device with a small crystal house illuminated by a spotlight, radiating light.
– This represents the release from ignorance, illuminating the heart and mind.

Om Ma-net Beh-meh “Moo”

The uneducated old lady is always chanting the six syllable mantra “om ma-net beh-meh moo.”
One day a Zen Master happened to walk past and saw in the distance rays emanating from a thatched hut. He thought someone within must have attained enlightenment and decided to pay a visit. He saw the old lady chanting with piety the six syllable mantra. While full of appreciation and respect he corrected her and said it should be “om ma-net beh-meh hom.” The old lady was ashamed and felt pronouncing the mantra wrongly was sacrilegious. So with piety she changed her chanting to “om ma-net beh-meh …… hom”, “om ma-net beh-meh…… hom” “om ma-net beh-meh……hom”
The Zen Master left. After walking some distance, he looked back. The rays emanating from the thatched hut were gone. He was shocked. After thinking for a while, something dawned on him. He quickly returned to the old lady and told her she didn’t recite the chant wrongly after all, just keep on chanting “om ma-net beh-meh moo.”
The old lady felt relieved. Smiling, she continued chanting “om ma-net beh-meh moo.”
When the Zen Master looked back from the distance, rays were emanating from the thatched hut again. The key to faith is not in the form, but in piety, perseverance and confidence.
